The source of Tieguanyin tea is grown in Muzha Zhanghu Mountain in Taipei, Taiwan, making Muzha the main planting area for Tieguanyin tea. It can be divided into teas made from Tieguanyin varieties (official Tieguanyin) and teas made from Tieguanyin specific methods. made tea.

Tieguanyin tea is a partially fermented tea that is moderately fermented and heavily roasted. Because of the roasting process, it is classified as roasted-flavored spherical oolong tea in the summary of the Taiwanese tea flavor wheel. The current production method of Tieguanyin is similar to that of spherical oolong tea. After the tea leaves are withered, the fermentation degree is increased by regulating the stirring process. The tea leaves are then repeatedly roasted to deepen the roasting degree. The ingredients in the tea are transformed into unique aroma and flavor by the fire temperature. taste. Therefore, after brewing, the amber water color is slightly red, the taste is strong and mellow, slightly astringent with sweetness, and has a pure and weak fruity sour taste. It is better to have a fragrant, sweet and aftertaste after repeated brewing. Especially the Tieguanyin variety is the top-grade product (commonly known as the Zhengzheng Tieguanyin), which is mainly produced in Muzha District, Taipei City and Shimen District, New Taipei City (hard branch and red heart variety).

Tea is like a person. Just as wounds can make a person weak or strong, the challenges faced by tea plants shape their unique characteristics. These “wounds” are what make Oriental Beauty Tea truly special.

The Essence of Oriental Beauty Tea

Hailing from the beautiful island of Formosa, Oriental Beauty Tea is one of the most precious and challenging teas to master. This tea was perhaps the first successful example of producing bug-bitten tea, creating a category known as “honey-flavored” teas.

    The Magic Behind the Flavor

The secret lies in the tiny insect known as Jacobiasca formosana, or the green leafhopper. These insects feed on the tea leaves, activating the plant’s self-defense mechanisms, which produce phytoalexins, especially terpenes like thermotrienols. These compounds act as natural repellents and attract predators to feed on the insects. One notable terpene, hotrienol, is found in grapes, honey, and Darjeeling tea, contributing to the desirable musky aroma.

Perfect Conditions for a Perfect Tea

To attract these insects, tea gardens must be completely pesticide-free and are usually located at lower altitudes with warmer temperatures. Harvested during the hottest months of mid-summer, when the leafhoppers are most active, the yield is lower than other tea varieties, making Oriental Beauty Tea even more precious.

Brewing Tips for the Best Experience

We recommend brewing Oriental Beauty Tea at a lower temperature with a longer steeping time to highlight its musky, fermented, sweet-sour aroma. As the brewing process continues, the tea gracefully transforms, revealing the woody character typical of black tea.

    A Royal Favorite

Also known as the Beauty of the East, this tea earned its nickname after Queen Elizabeth II fell in love with its exquisite flavor.

Indulge in the Exquisite Taste of Oriental Beauty Tea

Experience the musky, honey-like aroma and complex flavors of Oriental Beauty Tea. This precious and rare tea will elevate your tea ritual, offering a truly unique and unforgettable taste.

Among them, the high-mountain tea produced in the Alishan Tea Area at an altitude of more than 1,200 meters is the representative of Taiwanese tea. Fresh and vibrant medium-fermented, low-roasted high mountain oolong tea, Qingxin Oolong (high mountain oolong tea) is also known as soft branch oolong. The dried tea has a vivid green color and a mellow taste with a unique mountain flavor.
Made in Taiwan, sourced from natural agricultural farms, no chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used in the production process.

    Farming

Alisan high mountain tea is very well-known all over the world, and it’s neat to see large tea plantations on your way to Alisan Road.  Alisan ‘Pearl Dew’ is specific name for the tea produce on the plantation at the 64th kilometer stone and 1300 meters above sea level. The clouds coming from the ocean are readily visible on the roadside. This place is Shi-Zhou which means “stone table”. The locals like to call this place “stone table” due to the large and squarely shaped boulder that looks just like a table on the roadside. Legend has it that this is the place for the deities to savor the amazing tea. The tea here is so good that taste like refreshing pearl dew in the morning.

The temperature difference between day and night in Taiwan’s high mountains is obvious, and the unique mountain climate creates top-notch high mountain tea. Especially in the afternoon, clouds and mist slowly cover the entire tea garden, forming a unique microclimate. In this environment, the growth rate of the tea tree naturally slows down. This is not its weakness, but its advantage. Because of the slow growth, the buds and leaves of the tea tree become softer and the leaves are thicker, which increases the pectin content in the tea leaves. Pectin can make the tea soup fuller and smoother during the tea making process.

    Manufacturing

Taiwan’s high mountain tea is actually a general term that refers to tea produced in Taiwan’s tea gardens above 1,000 meters above sea level. High mountain tea usually emphasizes the special aroma and taste of each mountain, so it is mainly lightly fermented, lightly roasted, or even non-roasted fragrant oolong tea.

It is a lightly fermented tea and is classified as a fragrant spherical oolong tea in the Taiwanese tea flavor wheel. After the tea leaves are withered in the sun, indoor withered and stirred, pan-firing, kneaded, and dried, the appearance is tightly kneaded into a spherical shape. The color of the tea leaves is green and fresh, the water color is honey green or honey yellow, the taste is sweet, smooth, soft, rich in activity, and the aroma is Elegant and resistant to brewing, it is a Taiwanese specialty tea that has both aroma and taste. If produced in tea gardens above an altitude of 1,000 meters, due to the cool mountain climate, shrouded in clouds in the morning and evening, and shorter average sunshine, the bitter and astringent components such as catechins in tea tree buds and leaves will be reduced, while theanine and soluble nitrogen, etc. The content of ingredients that contribute to the sweet taste is increased, and the buds and leaves are soft, the mesophyll is thick, and the pectin content is high. It is mainly produced in the Meishan Township, Alishan Township, Fanlu Township and Zhuqi Township in Chiayi County.

    Brewing Tips

Warm up the tea vessels with the boiling water. Use 3 grams of tea per 150 milliliters of the water, pour water at a temperature of 95-100 °C and let it steep for approx. 3 minute. In this way, you have the best taste of this tea. In this way, you can gradually prepare 5 to 7 times of tea.

    About This Tea

Named “Wrapped Kind” after the traditional packaging method, this tea is crafted from greener oolongs but is oxidized slightly longer. This careful process shifts its flavor profile from purely vegetal to a perfect balance of vegetal, floral, and fruity notes. Known as Wenshan Baozhong or Pouchong, this tea stands out as one of the few Taiwanese oolongs not ball-rolled, making it ideal for aging. Aging oolong tea is an art, and this variety excels in developing complexity over time. Versatile and refreshing, it’s also an excellent choice for cold brewing.
