Paochong Tea

Taiwanese Paochong tea (包種茶) — also spelled Baozhong tea — is a lightly oxidized oolong that sits beautifully between green and oolong teas. It is especially prized for its floral aroma, silky mouthfeel, and fresh, clean taste.

01

Tea from the Source of Purity

Nestled within a regulated watershed conservation area, Pinglin is one of Taiwan’s key water source regions, providing clean drinking water to millions. As part of the Feicui Reservoir protection zone, tea farming here is strictly managed to protect the ecosystem.
This means no chemical fertilizers or pesticides are allowed, and farmers must follow eco-friendly, low-impact practices. The result is a tea that not only tastes clean and vibrant but is also grown in harmony with nature — sustainably cultivated at the source of Taiwan’s purest water.

02

Excellent Craftsmanship

Taiwante have cooperated with the unique tea master Kuan-hsuan Su, the youngest champion of Wenshan Baozhong tea and the sixth-generation tea maker of Pinglin Qingjing Tea Farm at the age of 27. We customize a special version of Baozhong tea, using the “Small Leaf Green Heart Oolong” tea tree to produce a special and unique Baozhong tea with a unique taste. The mature leaves with green leaves and red edges are fully fermented, allowing the sweetness and fruitiness to penetrate the heart.

Wenshan Paochong is like spring in a cup — with notes of gardenia and the softness of mountain mist. It captures the heart of Taiwanese tea tradition with grace and purity.”

Paochong is lightly oxidized (8–18%), giving it a floral, fresh, and mild green-oolong profile. This subtle base doesn’t overpower herbs—it blends harmoniously with floral, citrusy, or even mildly spicy ingredients.

Perfect partners: osmanthus, chrysanthemum, lemongrass, mint, rose, or ginger.

Flavor Note

☁️Light-bodied, gardenia-like fragrance, buttery texture, and a clean, lingering finish.
A tea as fresh and clear as the mountains it comes from.
🌸 Floral and Elegant Aroma
Paochong is known for its natural floral fragrance — like orchid, gardenia, or magnolia — which comes from the cultivar and the processing style, not added flavoring.
It has a refreshing and delicate bouquet that lingers, making it a favorite for those who enjoy a more subtle, nuanced tea.

04

Moderate Caffeine

🌿 Compared to other oolongs, Paochong is very lightly oxidized (~8–15%), often closer to a green tea in character.
This gives it a bright green leaf appearance, a pale golden liquor, and a grassy-sweet freshness balanced with soft floral depth.(20–25 mg per gram).

05

How to Brew

🔁 Utensils used: wide-mouthed, flat covered bowl, flat pot. Porcelain gives you a greater sense of achievement than a purple clay teapot.
Flat, wide-mouthed teaware is more conducive to brewing Baozhong tea.
🔁 Amount of tea used: There is a golden ratio between tea and water, 1g: 30~40c.c.
🔁 Temperature used: 95 degrees Celsius is recommended.
